There is only one choice of gears for 6-speeds. With the 3.42's and stock rpm limiter you won't quite make it. If you've still got your Hypertech you can raise your rev limit up to 6,200 and do it though.

Re: Should i finish in 3rd gear?

depends I guess on your tire size. at 255/40/17 height w/ 3.23's and a 94+ T-56 I finish RIGHT at redline in 3rd... so unless your tires are a bit taller than no, you will probably have to shift..

Re: Should i finish in 3rd gear?

You would like to cross the finishing line in top gear (1:1) which is 4th in a t56 at around max hp rpm. In an a4 1:1 is third. Since its direct it has the least losses and that's why its preferred.
One more thing, you should be in top gear at around 1/8 mile and you adjust your effective rear ratio to achieve this. This is the close to perfect drag setup, but a dual purpose car is all about compromises.

I have tried both 3rd and 4th gear going through the finish line and my E.T.'s stay nearly the same.

Re: Should i finish in 3rd gear?

Well my track results are in.
Bein unexperienced my first 2 runs were pretty bad.

First Run i had a 2.5 60' and hitting second the *** completely slid out from me and i tried to cross in 3rd which fell like 100' short and started rev'n out so i just coasted thru and i finished a 14.59 at 100.78

Second run was worse. Car just ran completely different down the track its like the clutch never hooked right off the line, 14.9 at 95.41

Third run was my best was feelin a lil better, and not as nervous.
hit a 2.227 60' time, 9.0 in the 1/8 and finished the 1/4 at 13.852 at 101.98

My tires really suck, i got to get somethin stickier, i have proxes fz4s and let me tell you it was hell tryin to get my tires down.

How much do you think i can improve my last time with the mods in my sig. thanks guys
