should I cut out my cat. conv?

I have a 94 T/A with Mac midlength headers, ORY, and Magnaflow exhaust. Do you guys think I should cut out my cat? What will I gain or lose from doing this, performance and sound wise? Just wondering because I heard that the car will backfire alot if I do cut it out. Also what is the cat replaced with? Do they just weld in a piece of piping or what?

My car has a pipe welded in place of the cat.

Why are you removing it?

I want to remove it because its too restrictive, It's a high flow cat and everything but I figured why not cut it out since we don't have emissions here in Clovis,NM. I know you gain some HP but I don't know how much. Also the Magnaflow is a little too quiet for me at idle

My plan is to put my cat back on I've got Jet Hot LT's and a flowmaster muffler. But I will be getting an electric cutout soon and will put the cat behind it.

If you currently have an ORY (offroad Y-pipe pipe), then that means you don't have any cats on your car. But I'm confused, because you'd only have an ORY if you had the '96-'97 Mac set-up...

Do you currently have just one highflow cat on there right after the Y-pipe? Because that is what I have for my '95 ('94-'95 single cat Mac's w/ a Random Tech highflow cat right after the Y).

You need to clarify so we can help you correctly,

Mike

P.S. I'm looking to ditch my highflow cat soon too since the Flowmaster cat-back is waaaaay too quiet with it on there and I've already got used to my open cutout (yeah, I'm crazy; wouldn't mind it even louder).

The setup is like this: Mac-mids, ORY, catalytic converter, Magnaflow muffler. I bought the car in April from a guy in Tennessee so he had to pass emissions and so I guess he put the cat further back? Thats the only reasoning I could come up with
