From: NY...what a bad place for a nice car
should i buy a crate motor

well i really wanna do a 383 stroker settup for my car...but since i have to wait a few year b4 i blow it im probably gonna run N/A for a while

but anyways....my question is
should i buy the parts to build a 383 stroker and use my origional engine or should i buy a crate motor or not

i can get a crate motor frommy buddy ...he says an autohop aroud my area offered to sell him a GM 383 for about 2800 dollars ...with the only exception that its has castiron heads (i guess weight wise that sucks, u can swap heads and get aluminum ones)

so hould i build my own or crate it

thanks

Re: should i buy a crate motor

if you got the time, build it yourself. if your pressed for time and/or want the car running quickly, buy a crate motor. I bet that eng. your buddy is talking about is not an LT1. there's quite a few vendors here that can build you a crate motor. #1 comeing to mind would be RPM, then there's combo motorsports. I just got done building mine finally and there is quite alot to do for a 383 over just a plain 355. lots of test fitting and clearancing, then there's the oil pan isssue's. then theres waiting for the machine shop.
