Shorted out my O2?

Well the other day I was installing new O2's and I was just wiring them where the they go because I have allready extended the wiring. Anyway I was in a hurry and taped all the connection together(Yes I know im an idiot) Its throwing a code and running like crap so I realized my mistake and took it apart and re taped everything seperetly but it still throws a code and barely runs. Is it possible to short out the O2 sensors? I just bought new ones and will be putting them in tomorrow but this is getting expensive($80 cnd each) and I am just wondering if there is anything else that might of got wrecked in the process? I have checked all the fuses and they are fine

BTW I have a 95 z28

Re: Shorted out my O2?

You can't just twist and tape your O2 sensor wires. You will be creating a resistance and create a false voltage drop, leading to a check engine light. You need to use the factory wirning harness with O2 sensor extensions. You can't short out an O2 sensor itself and hurt it, but you CAN short out the computer.

Re: Shorted out my O2?

Your problems may be worse.

If you crossed some of the wires you may have fried this portion of the PCM. I've seen it before. My buddy had to get a new PCM because no matter what he did one O2 sensor would read a steady 450mv I believe it was. Did all kinds of troubleshooting and determined it was in the PCM Sure enough, switched PCM and problem went away. So, it's possible that now that you have it wired correctly that it's too late because damage has already been done in the PCM. Not saying this is what happened but it is highly possible.

So should I bother trying to new O2 sensors? I sauder the wires and then taped them together. The first 15 km or so of driving my car went well but after that is it running like crap and feels like its going to die. How much do pcm go for?
