shortblock combos for boost and nitrous
shortblock combos for boost and nitrous
I'm planning on building a 383 in the next month or so and need it too take some abuse. I want to run 14 p.s.I through the v1 s-trim couple with a 100-150 shot from my nitrous outlet plate kit and do a Meth injection setup as well. I am going too speak with c.n.c motorsports on Monday about a full race prep for my block. I was thinking of going with a scat 4340 crank 3.75 stroke, scat 6" h-beam rods, and a set of j.e dished pistons. On top of that will be a set of le3 heads, custom ground billet c.a.m, 1.6 rockers,le ported intake manifold, and as of right now a 58mm Holley tb and 42 lb Lucas injectors. I have a 255lph racetronix fuel pump and adjustable f.p.r. I'm not very familiar with boost and fairly new to nitrous but does this combo sound like it will hold up? The c.a.m specs are a 576/570 lift with 224/230 duration on a 114 l.s.a. I have scorpion 1.6rr's n/b right now butvwould be open too changing them out. I was looking for 9to1scr and with a zero decked block,58cc heads,j.e 21cc dished pistons,4.125 head gasket with a compressed thickness of -.039 that's right around where I should be I believe

Re: shortblock combos for boost and nitrous
JE SRP Pro Series #279580 for 5.7" rod
Wiseco Pro Tru #PT097H3 for 6.0" rod
Both of those are off the shelf pistons that will put you in the low 9.0 range without a thick headgasket which kills quench. The SRP would be my choice as it has a better ring package and a coated skirt. Using a 5.7 rod for what you're doing is not a bad idea, longer skirt on the piston, and less dwell at tdc.
Stud the mains and the heads.

Re: shortblock combos for boost and nitrous
I have a.r.p head bolts as of now. So 5.7 scat 4340 h beams, scat 3.75 stroke crank and those j.e's should be a pretty stout combo for me? I just don't wanna rebuild a motor once a year. I spoke with c.n.c Motorsports and i would have too ship my block to them for race prepping. Once you figure in the cost of shipping the block to and from there I'm looking at well over 2000 dollars just in the block work. Not sure if i will be pulling the trigger on it or having a local machinist do it. I will say this my current short block with speed pro pistons, stock pink rods, and stock polished crank has taken more abuse then I ever dreamed of. Only down fall was the engine builder didn't have a clue when it came to the top end lol. Now that I have a top end in place I wouldn't be afraid to let him go to town on a forged short block.
Re: shortblock combos for boost and nitrous
I would use a local builder unless money is no retriction. Also, I agree srp makes a good piston much cheaper than je and I would get at least a 60lb. injector. I also don't think one 255 pump will be enough.
Re: shortblock combos for boost and nitrous
I like the Scat Pro I beam rods better than the H beam rods - use them all the time, and I assume you are talking about a forged scat crank - not the cast one right?
The Callies Compstar crank is about the same price, and is a better crank.

Re: shortblock combos for boost and nitrous
I thought the h beams were stronger? Comp star cranks are in the 600-700 range? Will mode likely run an external pump as well. I figured the injectors would be too small. I wonder why the I beams are rated for less power then the h beams. Yes I was talking bout the forged scat crank

The H rods require more weight made up in sectional thickness to be as strong as a lighter I beam. Up until the Scat Pro I was released there were no affordable, well designed I beam rods - so the cheap to manufacture H beams were popular.
