The car is stock. I understand that i'll need the bolt ons to get the car to function ideally.
I just want to get the shortblock done now because it is in bad shape. Better to take care of it now, rather than later. Especially with the oil pressure so low.

What can I do with a shortblock for under 2000.

what i would do is a stock crank refinished, eagle h-beam rods, and a set of forged pistons, you might be able to squeek that by for just less than 2k if you do the work yourself.

i am not a proffesional on this though, if your lucky MachinistOne or 96capricemgr might come back with some more info, they both are very knowlegable.

you could also go with a stock crank, eagle sir rods and hyperutetic [sp?] pistons

I had pictures of that 385 stroker listed in the classifieds sent to me. It looked real clean.

Anyone have any pros/cons to going that route?

$500 - block clean/mag, bore/hone, deck, cam bearings, etc.

$100 - Crank ground, or cheaper if it only needs a polish at STD size.

$300 Balance rotating assy.

$290 #2-ICR6000-7/16 Scat Pro-comp series I-beams

$500 PT008H3 Wiseco Pro-tru piston kit

That's $1700 for the basic shortblock, not including bearings, oil pump, cam, timing set, and assembly. But those are the best cheap parts to use.

Now if you are going to spend that much on the bottom end, you should also stud the caps and have it line-honed. You know that once you make 430rwhp, eventually you are going to want more...it's a never-ending vicious cycle.

That sounds managable.
What exactly is "line-honed"
On average what does assembly cost? I'm comfortable with cams and heads, but not with the rotating assembly.
