short simple

ok securrity light has been on and off but never caused a problem, i tried another key same thing

today the car started ran a sec or 2 and died, we tried to check the key cylinder with a volt meter in the wires comming off of it, seemed to be working...so we keep tryin to start it and after about 50 attempts it starts and runs...

drives fine now no security light...

question is do i need to replace the key cylinder? if so do i need new keys or can i use my existing ones and have the key cylinder rekeyed...

explain
thanks

You can revove the key resistor part that reads the code on the key. There is a resistor that will bypass it. It costs .30 cents and takes 10 minutes to do or a new cylinder was $75 and cost over a $100 to have someone install it.

I would take it to a lock smith and have them do it. This is something left for a professional in my opinion.
