Short Headers

I have a loudmouth cat. back, but want to be getting headers, I was thinking that for emmisions reasons, I would get shorties. Who has the best short headrs for the price. I have only really seen MAC and Edelbrock, and the MACs seems cheaper, but i'm sure there are a lot of others out there. I would like to get the SLP's because I have heard alot of great things about them, but too expensive for me. It's a daily driver so I was thinking short headers would be the best for emissions, and i hope easier to install. So what do you guys think would be the best for me to get for the price. Also i'm looking for something with good plug access. Anyone know of any write ups on how to install them?

I think the Mac's are your only option then, haha. I found SLP's used for a good price, thats why i got them. Mac's are a great option.

Mac's are your best option for good shorties with great plug access. If you want you can save your money and get some AS&M headers also emissions leagal. E-bay is another option, I saw some SLP headers the other day on there for sale but don't know if the sale already ended.

As far as i know the AS&M don't have an EO number. Yes, they have the emmisions hookups and would pass in many places, but are not 100% guarenteed emmisions legal. They are pricier like the SLP's and VERY similar. RKsports are similar as well but cheaper due to a mediocre coating.

You can get MAC headers with Jet-Hot coating directly from Jet-Hot. The better '94-'95 style MAC's are $561 from Jet-Hot including shipping, coated inside and out for the headers and Y-pipe. www.jet-hot.com

For $599 + shipping you can get RKSport '94-'95 style headers that have the 1 3/4" primaries, they are coated but not Jet-Hot coated. www.rksport.com

Install:

Whats about the BBK's? They are stainless and around $350 from summit. When it comes to heat dissapation and resisting corrosion stainless products (when quality made) last a good while. Not like ceramic but a good while.

I bought my MAC headers through a local speed shop. I can tell you from someone who owns a set...I have NO REGRETS about buying them. Installation was easy, and They're good for 12.0's @ 112 MPH...With all the emissions BS (A.I.R. and EGR) still hooked to them.

You bought the shorties? Did they come with a y-pipe? or can I use the stock y-pipe? I wonder if I can find a shop around here that sells them

The MAC headers are considered a "mid length"...Which provide a good balance between torque and HP. At 6000 RPM the mid length makes a little more than 20 HP over a longtube. On the bottom end, they make about 5 less Ft. pounds of torque at 2000.
I don't know about everyone else, but I'm launching above 2000 RPM, so the torque loss below that isn't applicable.

The MAC headers come with a y-pipe that's included in the price.
