You could probably try one of the supporting vendors, Victory Racing Engines. They have both short/long blocks assemblies that work within a range of budgets.

I went with VRE. They can build most any combo at fair prices. And you know what you get, as opposed to a maybe cheaper maybe problematic ebay or noname motor.

why not just buy the RA and have a machine shop do the work and assembly? I would think you could get a hell of a lot better deal that way.

D.I.Y. would be the fun way.

Also check Golen Engine Services. They have very good quality budget short blocks along with the more premium short blocks.

Sometimes you can save money by using your current short block and just having it machined. Buy a nice rotating assembly kit and you are all set.

I wanted to rebuild mine, got a very attractive quote for machine work and parts. After the qoute got dialed in to be pretty accurate, VRE was within $200 and I got to sell my old block. Not saying you can't do better, but in my case (4-bolt conversion all forged Compstar/Mahle) the machine shop quote SATRTED low, but when I went back with $$ to seal the deal and write down all the details, price jumped a LOT due to the 'extra' details. Things like 'oh, you want me to use torque plates, and align hone the new caps?'. So, I wasted like a month and a couple half days off work on the machine shop quote, only to wind up with VRE.

Building it myself would be a lot more satisfying, but the shop qoute increase finally ticked me off enough to just buy the shortblock. It WAS a reputable shop, not bottom-line pricing, but well known.

I wish you better luck if you go the rebuild at a shop route. Just be sure to quote ALL the operations, not 'set me up with a reliable 383 4 bolt block for xxx components'.
