timing set /water pump

timing set /water pump

if i run a elec water pump do i need to run a factory style timing set or can i run a gen 1 style timing set

You can run a standard timging chain and gear. There are some nuances such as roller cam, optical triggers on the later LT1s. I'm running a Cloyes roller in mine, but I don't recall the p/n. You just need to plug up the hole in the timing cover. Call the mfg to get the proper p/n or do a search.

wow no one else runnin a gen 1 timing chain all i wanted to know was if it was a bolt in thing or if i had to do a high level of cobboledgy on it

It is a straight bolt in deal with no cobboledgy needed. Just make sure you get one that is 87' and later factory roller cam.

all depends, you runnig a non-vented(93-94) or vented(95-97) opti???

ok, then yes, a standard SBC set will work, a double roller will work, you MIGHT need to slightly clearance the timing cover

You don't need to plug the water pump bearing hole. I didn't. If you look at your block, there are 2 openings below the water pump bearing housing. Oil would have to fill to the level of the bearing housing to start coming out of there.

Yes, but dirt and other debris can get in.

what holes are u talkin bout in timing cover or blocki hope your not talkin leavin holes in timing cover as that will be a little bit of a prob
