timing set /water pump
You can run a standard timging chain and gear. There are some nuances such as roller cam, optical triggers on the later LT1s. I'm running a Cloyes roller in mine, but I don't recall the p/n. You just need to plug up the hole in the timing cover. Call the mfg to get the proper p/n or do a search.
You don't need to plug the water pump bearing hole. I didn't. If you look at your block, there are 2 openings below the water pump bearing housing. Oil would have to fill to the level of the bearing housing to start coming out of there.
Yes, but dirt and other debris can get in.
