Arrow shoebox, and those with experience

i have drove my car for about 200miles now since i had the heads re-done, i have installed Z28springs, and 1.6 s/a roller rockers, and a good valve job...

my motor hasnt been running like it use to...after doing alot of searches on what the problem could be, i have came to conclusion that the rockers might have been set to tight!

i plan on adjusting them tomorrow with the motor running, and my question is...would it be ok to remove one valve cover at a time, then adjust them, then place the valve cover back on, or should i have them both off and go from there?

this is my first time setting the valve last, but i dont think its no biggie from all the stuff i have read and been told.

thanks for your time.

It's not going to hurt to do them one at a time. It may even be the best way when adjusting them with the engine running. There are other ways to do it, too. Info on my Tech Page.

Just be aware that it's going to be a messy job, as the valve train is being sprayed with oil, and with the valve covers off, it's most likely that it's going to be _everywhere_....on you and most of your engine compartment. If you purchase the 'old stoppers' mentioned above (Go to a Napa and explain what you're going to do, and they'll know what to give you. They're little plastic/wire clips that block much of the oil spray)

Aside from that, it would be wise to look at Shoebox's -other- methods to see if which procedure benefits you most...

Rob...glad I could make you chuckle in a thread the other night. I've been away and it's good to be back. I'll try to email ya later...

it doesnt make a big mess, it mostly just drips off the rockers, a little gets splashed on the headers, i used a soaking wet towel to keep the oil off the headers (it keeps the smoke down) much easier to adjust with the engine running, imo
now if you rev it up it will spew oil like crazy

At idle the oil shouldn't spray all over the place, i've done the running method on my 79' Z28 the little oil that came out though did run out the back of the motor so watch that
