Shifting question
Shifting question
My SS says in the manual that it comes with the option of starting in 2nd gear when accelerating quickly, but it said to do this I need to turn that option on (or at least I think it said that) but I don't see how to do that. Do I just start in second without switching anything on? I'm pretty sure it came fully loading with all the options and stuff so I don't know... Another thing, if I can start in 2nd, does my skip shift still work?
Thanks
Thanks
I'll check my manual, but I assume you're a 6spd... Just start it in 2nd. No, your skip shift will not work. In fact, skip shift only is on during a certain engine temp range, throttle range, and rpm range. Either way, eliminate it, because it gets annoying sometimes.
But I just say start it off in 2nd, last I knew in my 95 - there was no such thing as a button or anything for it.

I agree with what X7x7 said.
How would starting in second give you better acceleration???
2nd gear does not have as much torque as first (look at the gear ratios in your manual). It does get you out the hole slower
Now, if you're racing in snow, and you got snow tires, while your opponent is running 3xx/xx/19, *HE* may want to start out in second so as not to hit you while the rear end of his car fish tails as he's trying to get across the starting line.

Oh... My manual says it's for fast acceleration... hmm? Oh well... You guys recomend getting rid of my skip shift? Is it not good for racing? I always thought it was ment for that.. oh well... if it's not ment for racing, whats the point of it? Just for lazy people?
My understanding of the skip shift function was to provide good epa fuel numbers by forcing the driver to shift from 1st to 4th under certain conditions
I didn't get a 6 spd to be forced to shift a certain way.
The manual can be a wonderful thing, but do use common sense when reading it.
Of course, if you start out in 2nd all the time, the dealer will love you, because a clutch replacement runs upwards of at least $600+ with labor and parts at a dealer.
One other comment, about 2nd. If that was such a good thing, why is it when i try to start out in 2nd on my bike, the engine almost stalls (its an 1100cc too).
Are you sure you're reading the whole starting in 2nd in the proper context??

I'll check my manual again, thanks for all the replies. And I don't always start in 2nd, in fact I never have, just to let you know.
