shifting 3rd at 90

ok is it normal for me to have to shift out of 3rd at around 90 mph? I realized yesterday that I was almost at 6 grand in 3rd at 90 and had to shift to 4th?? What gear are you guys that are mostly stock in at 90?

I could hammer second on the freeway, with a 7k limiter, but CA traffic sucks.

I have 6500 rpm redline and shift into 3rd around 90-95mph. Something is definetely wrong with your set-up.

anyone know what mph I should be shifting 3-4, its a 6-speed by the way. The car is basically stock except exhaust and cai. WHy is the mph so low?

That sounds about right to me. You should shift into 4th at about 90-96mph. Thats when I shifted into 4th at the track.

according to the mph calculator on thirdgen.org:

assuming a 245-50-16 tire, 6000 rpm, 3.42 rear and a third gear of 1.43, the mph equal 93.5.

i'm not 100% positive on the third gear ratio...but i know that's close.

so you are pretty much right on. i know the first time i went to the track i tried running 3rd through the traps, bounced the rev limiter right at the end and i trapped 96mph...

A couple things, the stock rev limiter is before 6k. With that in mind, the guages are not all that accurate, so if they seem off by a little bit dont worry about it.

Are you honestly hitting the limiter at a solid 90 MPH? Check the Fbody gears site, and punch in your tire numbers. If the tires are worn a bit then that will further explain a little bit of top end loss, since the diameter will be a little less than stock.
