Question Shift Points and A4 Tuning

Are our cars programed to shift at a certain RPM or a Certain Speed? What is the best way to tune the basically stock LT1 PCM to maxamize the performance. Also what should the Air Fuel ratio be adjusted to for WOT?

Someone with knowledge of tuning, gimme a hand!!

Our cars shift according to speed I believe. If your car is stock, I would leave the shift points where they are....I did not get any difference at the track when I raised my shift points with my HPP3.

All GM transmissions shift on OSS (output shaft speed). The OSS is compared to the TPS for the correct upshifts. Engine speed is regulated by a speed limiter in the PCM. This is why some people complain about hitting the speed limiter before a shift, the engine hits it's limit before the OSS reaches the correct speed to command the shift.
