Shift Kit/ Car questions.. PLEASE HELP

I went to look at a formula today. Car appears to be in nice shape, it has 26k miles on it, 1997, and i think it has like the 2.73 gears in it or something. The cars shift from first into second was really hard, yet a solid shift, at any RPM's. Shifting down from 2nd to 1st seemed normal, and the 2nd to 3rd shift seemed normal as well. I was wondering if you think there is a shift kit installed in the car, the guy that has it, isn't sure if it has one of not. And,, if it has a shift kit, is there a way to disconnect it or something so it will shift normal so i can see if there is anything wrong with the car's transmission? Any help will be greatly appreciated

If the guy is the original owner he will be sure about everything. Suspect poor maintainance. If not, then you would know if it had one if the stock convertor is still being used. The 1-2 shift is almost uncomfortable at part throttle. It's got a jerk to it. It's not something you can disconnect. The valve body and some springs in the transmission usually are changed with a shift kit.

The guy isn't the original owner of the car. He never serviced the transmission, and he bought it with 13k miles, so he doubled the mileage on the car. Is there any way to look to see if it has a shift kit, can a dealer diagnostic tool pick it up or anything like that,,,, Can you put the car back to normal after it has a shift kit installed, because the 1-2 is a lil too uncomfortable....
thanks for the help guys.....

No way to tell without opening the tranny.
I had some Monkey Fu**in a football install my shiftkit and they left out half of it. I did not find this out till the rebuild but it now makes sense why the tranny did not last as long it should have.
Try to find the original owner if possible, if not it might be better to look for something else.
