Cool Shade Tree Do it yourself cheap exhaust coating that works !

I'm amazed.... I went out and bought some cheapo hi temp paint at the Meijers store here. It's rated at 1200 degrees. My long tubes were rusting from not being coated, So i figured this would stick for a little while and at least hold to the bottom where the rust was worst near the ground. What the heck, it's only $4.99.

Here is the initial paint job

Now, after almsot 1,000 miles in snowy salty weather there are only 2 rust spots. Right near the bend in the primary where the exhaust is the hottest. none nowhere else, all the way back to the collectors.

You can sort of see my chromallusion valve covers in this pic (Which I did for less than $15 )

I must advise though, I used paint stripper and degreaser after sanding them down pretty good. Making sure there were no oils or residue on them made a huge difference i do believe

Do you have the actual brand name of the paint, etc?
Thanks!

Glad it worked out for you. Look what happened when this guy tried it himself:

I think thats the exact same stuff I used... Lol...

I'm not sure if mine specified anything about exhaust though. Like I said, only place it's peeled is right at the first primary bend where the tubing gets the hottest. Yes, mine smoked like hell also, but I didn't warm it up all at once. I started, let it smoke a lil, shut it down... Over and over. I was mainly trying to get everything straight with the new engine, so I didn't want to run it at an extended period of time

Like I said, what are you out ? $4... lol

It looks like this guy was running really hot because if you look at the AIR fitting it is discolored. My one friend who has the same paint on the headers in his 4.3 doesn't look nearly as bad.
