Setting Valve lash?????
It's preloading the lifters, i.e., centering the push rod in the lifters. 0 lash/preload is when you can rotate the push rod between your index finger and thumb with just a bit of drag.
It's the distance between the tip of the RR and the valve stem. Usual clearance is 1/2 turn beyond 0 lash.
ONE way to set is:
Disconnect coil wire and put in neutral, set brake.
Remove valve covers. Begin with either bank and work your way around.
Have amigo bump start, or use starter remote, to where the EXHAUST valve just starts to open (intake lobe is now on base circle of cam lobe) adjust the INTAKE valve.
Adjust the clearance from 0 lash (a little drag) and tighten 1/2 turn more.
Bump again until INTAKE valve opens fully and is roughly half closed. Adjust the EXHAUST valve.
Do each cylinder and your good to go.
Don't forget to put your coil wire back on.
If it is desired to do a hot lash. Warm engine before you start. Remove only one valve cover and do that bank. Replace the valve cover and rewarm the engine. Then proceed with the 2nd bank since it would have cooled off since while you were doing the first back.
However, I don't believe it is necessary to do a hot lash.JMHO

When I did my cam swap, I did both the regular way, then again (engine running) after the engine had run for about 20 minutes and was fully warmed up. As mentioned, this may not be entirely necessary, but I believe it is the most accurate way to do it. Plus - you just can't beat hanging around over that hot engine while you do it, it's good fun!
