SES Problem
SES Problem
I don't have a code reader, so I need some help with a diagnosis. I have a '95 Formula and the SES light has been coming on.
Here is the problem. The SES light comes on while cruising in 6th gear. It mainly does it when you are around 60 mph, but it has done it at speeds higher than that. I thought at first it was just doing it when the cruise control was on too, but it happens when I'm not using it either.
Sometimes the light will come on for a short period of time, and then go off. Sometimes it will come on and stay on. Other times it will come on, go off, come on and so on and so forth.
After the car sits awhile, the light will be off when you start the car. I shut the car off for a minute or two when I got home tonight, and when I started it back up the light was off.
The light doesn't always come on either. I've made several 150 mile round trips and the light has not come on.
It first happened about 6 months ago. I filed up with gas, went down the road, gassed on it and the light came on. That was the first time I ever had this problem.
I usually use Phillips 66 gasoline, and I usually fill up at the same station or another one. I seldom go any other place.
What's the deal?

Sorry bud, like hunting a needle in a hay stack. You got to have the code. If you don't have a code scanner, try Autozone. They scan for free. If they can't help you pay a dealer $60.00 bucks to scan it for you. Try negotiating with the dealer price up front. Tell them you don't want any work done JUST SCAN IT.
Once you have the code it's a piece of cake after that. Try Autozone first.
