Question SES plus hard start?

Hey, this morning when I tried to start my car it cranked for 15-20 seconds, and wouldn't start. So I turned it off and tried again. This time it did the same thing, but I gave it a little gas and it started right up. But now the SES light is on, and the only symptom that it has out of the ordinary is that the tachometer sits right at 0 RPM even when the engine is running. I did not have time to look at it at all this morning, because I had to run to work.

Does anyone have any ideas as to where to start?

Thanks,
Chris

Get a scanner on it. Could be problems with the high and low res pulses from the OptiSpark, or it might be a loose ground wire, or 100 other problems. Why guess?

I guess because I have nothing better to do at work ;-) Opti was brand new ~10k ago, but definitely possible.

I will scan it tonight and update for sure.

P0372 Distributor Ignition (DI) high resolution circuit low input or something like that.

I am guessing that means opti? I am doing heads/cam soon so its not really that bad of timing if thats it.

Yes, that is the code for loss of the high resolution pulse signal on the Opti. Clear it and see how fast it comes back. Could be as simple as a little corrosion in one of the Opti harness connectors, a high voltage wire running too close to the Opti harness, or it might be a failing optical sensor.

Its still a very hard start, i ordered a new opti and harness today, the timing was as perfect as this could have been, as I am just getting ready for the heads/cam install, and was thinking of replacing it anyway, because it did get pretty wet.

Thanks,
Chris
