Question SES Light when in 6th gear for 30 minutes or more

My SES Light comes on only when I am riding for longer periods of time than normal and not until I am in 6th gear specifically. It will stay on till I cut the car off, but will not come back on when restarting the car. I tried getting it scanned at Autozone but they didn't have a scanner for a 95 OBI. Anyone else have this problem?

Thanks, Jamie

I'm not sure what the problem is but if you want to check it yourself as long as you have the OBD I, which I'm pretty sure the 95 does, then its pretty easy. Make sure you have a 12 pin connector and not the 16 pin. That's the difference between the OBD I and OBD II. All you have to do is take a small piece of wire and jumper (bridge, or whatever you want to call it) the A and B connectors. If you look a the connector is shaped like a rombus. The longest side should be on top. If so then the A and B connectors are on the top row and are the farthest to the right. The far right is the A and one in is the B. Stick the wire into the connectors and turn the key to ACC. Do not start the car. Watch the SES light. It will go off and then start to blink. It will blink the number of the code. Example: if the code is say 31 then the light will blink three times pause for a second and then blink one time. The code will repeat itself three times before moving on to the next code if you have more than one.

If nothing else, at autozone you can get a scanner for an OBD I for about $20 at autozone instead of paying the $50 or so to get it scanned.

Hope I explained it clearly and it helps. Let me know if you have any questions.

I have had it scanned before, but the guy who scanned it said that I have a 95 with the OBD1 computer and an OBD2 Style connector. At the time he scanned it, it didn't have this problem very often. Now it happens more often. Also I thought that the paperclip trick only worked on the 93's. I guess I am just gonna have to pay to get it scanned. I still don't know why the SES light doesn't come back on when I restart the car, only till I stay in 6th gear for a while.

Or you could just get a cable from www.akmcables.com and never bring it to get it scanned again and be able to scan your car in real time.

Cool

It happens to me all the time in 6th on the highway. For my OBD II car it always scans a P0400 EGR. EGR was replaced along with solenoid and vacuum lines and car runs fine despite code. I just erase code. Probably due to no back pressure from headers and cat-back which is set wide-open. Never happens if I stay in 5th.
