SES light on at startup, no crank?

1994 Z28-- Is the SES light supposed to stay on when the ignition is ON, but not running? I can't recall. Or should it go off after a couple seconds? THis car has never given me any troubles until last night, it just wouldn't fire up, acting like no fuel or no spark. Sure it's something simple but noticed that the SES light is on constantly. Hoping I can pull some codes.

Also, can I pull the codes using TunerCat or other software? WHat is easiest just to check the codes, and free?

Does it turn over? Does it click, but not turn starter? A bit more specific. Have Auto Zone give you a free code check. Other stores can also provide this free service.

If turns over strong, but won't start, may be your opti. But if it doesn't turn over or just clicks, then you probably have a bad batttery or connections.

Provide more info and you will get more responses. JMHO

Bubba, thanks but I am inquiring just about the SES light. I can figure out the no start issue, not that worried about it yet. It turns over fine though, it's a fuel or spark issue. I would have to push it to Autozone I have an ALDL cable so I can scan it for codes but it's been a while...

The SES should go off after a couple of seconds with the key on.

Autozone doesn't usually provide an OBDI code reader.
