SES Light & Fans

Hi all,

I have been having this problem for a while now and need to fix it. After I turn my car on and it runs for 30 seconds to a minute, I hear one fan turn on, then the SES light comes on, then the other fan turns on and the SES light stays on until I tunr off the car. I scanned the code (my car is a 93Z28) and it is 26. Last night I did some research on here and checked, and the fuse for the AIR pump was blown. I replaced it and the problem continues. I will check today and post back if it is blown again. Give me some suggestions on troubleshooting ideas. Also, how do I do !AIR if the AIR pump is the problem. I'd rather just remove it than replace it, but I want that dang SES light to stay off!

Thanks!

The fans come on as a result of the SES. The computer does that. If you are blowing AIR pump fuses, just disconnect the plug to the pump. I can't quite remember, but I think it will not cause the SES if you do this on your 1993. You can try it, at least. Your pump is probably suffering from corrosion that is causing an internal short.

I assume you mean the power source to the pump? Or is there some sort of sensor?

Thanks...

Yeah, there is a small electrical connector right on the pump. Unplug it.

Okay, I pulled the power to the pump, but the problem persists. What should I do next???

Still SES, same trouble code and the fuse is not blown? Maybe someone that has actually gotten rid of the AIR pump can chime in. Sounds like you don't want to replace the pump.

The fuse was blown and I tried to just unplug the AIR pump and the SES light is still on. I can replace the pump if I can verify that is the problem. But, if it can be fixed without being replaced, that would be better

Just to be straight, the fuse needs to be good and the pump unplugged.

I think that did it. I just got to work and the SES light (nor the fans) ever came on. So for some reason it needs a fuse to be in there even though the AIR pump is unplugged, eh? THanks for the idiod check and advise!
