SES light again.. and again and again and again..

So I was driving to school tonight.. about a 35-40 minute ride. and my check engine light kept going on and off.. sometimes it would be on for a second and sometimes it would be on for a minute or two but it was just on and off almost the entire drive there.. I was beginning to think it would vary with speed because it seemed like i could almost make it go off whenever i would hit around 70 but it kinda broke that pattern a few times.. however when i got off the highway it didnt come on again..

any ideas what would cause the SES light over and over again like that?

I think maybe bad gas.. only cause the pump i used before i left was going ungodly slow and maybe it was alomst empty? i dont know im no genuis ha

Problem is, there are some diagnostics that the PCM runs continuously, and others that can only be run under very limited conditions. So its hard to just pick one out and say that's the reason the light is going on and off.
