SES light after 1.6 roller rocker install?
I just finished a brutal 10 hour bout putting in some Crane gold 1.6 roller rockers, LT4 springs, shims, Fel Pro seals, etc, put everything together, and idled for about 5 minutes fine.
Took my friend for a test drive and told him "any mod that doesn't throw an SES light is a good mod".
We stopped for some chow, and the damn SES light came on.
I'm pretty sure I did everything correct. Zero lash, then gave the polylocks a 1/2 turn at TDC. I don't think I forgot to put anything back where it should be.
Something else I should check?

Re: SES light after 1.6 roller rocker install?
It might be possible that the knock module is picking up on the much louder ("clackier") RR and interpriting it as false knock.
I don't know if that would set off the SES light though.
But LT4's had a different knock module specifically for that reason... so it can happen.

FINALLY good people have stepped up. For some reason, the SES light went away on its own.
I guess I should get an LT4 knock module. Skull-1 is still running a bit rough though. Perhaps because of the extra lift?

Re: SES light after 1.6 roller rocker install?
Even though the light went away, you should still check what the code was. I've had the SES light on since I installed a new y-pipe with hi-flow cats. The code had to do with the EGR valve not getting enough flow..not a big deal, plan to turn it off once I get around to getting the engine dyno tuned. I also installed 1.6 RRs recently and I would highly suggest you get your car tuned...dyno or mail in, you've changed the lift/duration. My car runs fine, but it "feels" like it needs to idle at a little higher rpm now. Sometimes it feels like it's on the brink of dying...just give it a little gas and it's fine. Only happens at a stop light...it should just be tuned out.
