Timing Chain Help

I need help picking out a timing chain for a heads and cam application. My original choice is the LT4 Heavy Duty one. I do not want to go with an electric water pump so a double roller is out. It's hard to tell which one is the best becase I hear some people complaining of them being sloppy. What do they mean by this? If you would, please post your experiences with the different timing chains installed on your cars. Thanks

Re: Timing Chain Help

I didnt want to go with and e-waterpump at first but after adding up the costs it was the best thing to do. Cloyes double roller 80 bucks, csr e-h20 pump 170 bucks. That is about the same price as the good hd lt4 timing chain...but you gain hp with the e-h2o pump, not to mention you put less stress on the front cam bearing.

If your worried about it over heating, dont i just drove my car 250 miles in traffic and interstate driving today and it drove just fine and never saw over 180 degress.

Re: Timing Chain Help

I have an LT4 extreme duty chain in my motor and it was pretty sloppy when new out of the box. I ordered the cloyes over sized gear from thunderracing and that tightened it up just right. I didn't want to go with an electric pump and after seeing my buddies epump come unhooked and his car sky rocket in temp a few times i decided they were a bad idea. He's already on his second CSI pump and i'm still on my stock water pump. He's decided to stay with a stock pump on his next LT1.

Re: Timing Chain Help

I never had a problem with my EWP that wasn't my fault. I too had a loose connection... but since I made the connection, I can't really blame the pump.

Aside from that, it's good to go.

By the way - I'm running the 3145. Great set.
