SES Light

I have a 94 Z28, 6 speed, and just added some ported stock heads with stock valves, LT4 springs, C.C. 1.6 roller rockers, Pacesetter long tubes and y pipe, and LT4 knock module, and deleted the EGR, AIR PUMP, and CAT. I already had flowmaster cat back, 160 T stat, air foil, Hypertech Programmer, 1LE elbow, and SLP CAI but I just put the stock air box back on because the SLP CAI dont fit right. The car starts fine and rus good but the SES light comes on in about 15 sec. after starting the car and then the fans keep running. The car had no problems before. Do I need a tune ? I dont have no scanning equipment, but it is something I would like to get any suggestion. THANKS.

Do your pacesetter LTs have the emmission hook-ups? If they are non-emmission compliant you will need to have your PCM sent out and tuned. The hypertech power programmer cannot tune out the EGR and the AIR. Do you have the block off plates and vaccuum caps to make it all correct?

The pacesetters do not have emmission hook ups. I do have the block off plates, and vacum capped.

Its hard to help you without knowing what the specific code is. It could very well be related to the headers, it may not. Get the car scanned for the codes.

you just need to have your PCM retuned. http://www.madz28.com

It may be because of the air pump delete ... you can remove the plumbing and the pump but if you ALSO remove the relay and/or the fuse for that relay on OBDI cars the SES light comes on and the fan runs continuously.
Good Luck
(This may apply to the EGR too!)

I left the relay and the fuse kooked up, I know as long as it reads power to the relay it pull a code. I just ordered a tune from PCMFORLESS earlier today and plan on trying out the free version of Data Master to see how I like it. Hopefully this will help me find the problem out.

When you deleted the EGR, did you delete the EGR vacuum solenoid?

Yes I deleted the vacuum solenoid, and put a vacuum cap on the intake.

That's the source of your code. You either need it tuned out or you need to put a resistor in place of the solenoid.

I just hooked up the EGR sloenoid to see if that was it, and it was. Let the car run for about 5 min. and no SES light. Thanks for the help this site is the best thing since slice bread.

You still run the risk of getting DTC 32 for no EGR flow. That code doesn't seem to pop up much in the OBD-I cars, though.

I just ordered a tune from PCMFORLESS yesterday. Had them delete the EGR and AIRPUMP so hopefully I wont get any more DTC. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP. I always value your advice Injuneer.
