SES Help...

Ok here's the rundown, I seafoamed my engine and intake last Saturday, did everything like I was supposed to (actually I probably used less seafoam than required since I was afraid of messing something up), well Sunday it set all day. Today I get up go to work and as I start my car up everything is normal, whenever the temp got to right at 160-165* it began to smoke, I'm not sure if this is from the fact that it was cold outside this morning or from remnant seafoam, it did smoke alot though, quit after I drove to work. Well on the way after warming it up all the way to around 180* I got an SES light. While at the last stoplight before work the SES light went off while I was waiting for the light to change, and then on again as I left the light. So after I pulled up to work I let it idle while still in drive, the light went out, put it in park the light came back. I let it cool for a few hrs then started it back up on a break no light, the exhaust smells really rich. Driving home from work the SES light came on after about 3 mins of driving and when temp was around 180*. The car feels slightly sluggish when the light is on, dont know if it is in my head or actual though . Any thoughts as to what this might be? I thought it might be the cleaning at first fouled the O2's or clogged the cat, but wouldn't that be an immediate SES light, as in I would've got the light on my drive home after cleaning? Thanx in advance guyz!

How about pulling the code? That is always a good place to start.

I would but AZ is closed right now and I wanted to fix it A.S.A.P. cause my buddy is partin out his car cause he cracked or warped a head, he said if it was O2's then he would just swap me out and save me a few $'s, I have the OBD I but with a 16 PIN connector so I can't jumper my codes out.

Problem with the top oil cleaners is they loosen the valve deposits, which are often rich in phosphorus... and phosphorus does bad things to O2 sensors. Or, maybe you just put so much cleaner in that it went through the engine and coated the sensors. That might eventually burn off.

If the response of the O2 sensors was "poisoned", the SES light probably wouldn't come on until 1) it warmed up enough to go into closed loop; and 2) the BLM's started to respond to the funky O2 readings and eventually reached the upper (160) or lower (108) limits, throwing your A/F ratio out of whack.

But all this is speculation... like Rob said, get it on a scanner. Find a friend with Auto Xray, a ScanMaster, TTS DataMaster or Freescan. Of course you will have to boggle around with the connector to get the data pin connected to their cable.

Mine does the same thing Im thinking O2s as well....I went to AZ and they couldnt scan it 'cause mine is the OBD1....all they can do is the OBD2, which sucks....but when you find out the problem, let me know!!!! That light drives me crazy!!

noticed something else today, as soon as the SES light comes on the fans kick on to, when SES goes out so do the fans..It comes on not even 1/2 way to the 1/4 mark...WTF, mines OBD1 so I guess AZ can't even scan mine...

The pcm turns the fans on with the SES. That is normal. If the SES is going on and off, it probably has something to do with the O2s or maybe EGR. If you are going to work on your own car, you need to invest in a scan tool.

For lack of diagnostics, you could just pull your O2s and see if they are unusually gunked up.
