ses code = shift sensor?

I just had my car scanned by the wonderful people of autozone.
I didnt get a chance to see the code myself cause the guy was in
a rush. But he told me it was only throwing one code and he sad
it was the shift sensor. What is that? The problem with my car is
that it doesnt have that kick anymore. It doesnt want to downshift. It still climbs pretty good at higher speeds but its
just not the same. From a stop forget it its worse than my old
3.4 camaro. Could all this be caused by what he said is a shift
sensor? It's a 96 A4, with 90,000 miles. Any help would be
appreciated. thanks guys.

Was it a code for the shift "sensor" or one of the "solenoids"? Let us know.

Hey guys, well I finally got my car scanned again.
It was throwing 2 codes... PO300 Random cylinder misfire and
PO758 shift solienoid B circuit electrical. What is PO758 and how
much does it cost? How easy is it to fix? Also Im getting new plugs
and wires which ones do you guys think i should get if I plan to
stay N/A. Probably LT4 conversion. Thanks for your time guys.

P0758 is for the 2-3 shift solenoid. The pcm is sensing incorrect voltage on the circuit (open, short or ground). It could be a problem with the connection at the pcm or at the tranny or wiring/solenoid inside the tranny.

Is your SES still on? Is the tranny shifting unusually hard all the time? The code is supposed to inhibit overdrive and TCC engagement. Is that happening? If not, maybe it was an old code. If knowlegeable enough, the AZ person should have told you if the code was active or in history.

Thanks for the reply shoebox. Yes my SES light is constantly on
has been since all this crap has been happening. It doesnt shift
hard at all. When I floor it though it wont downshift, it just slowly
climbs. I timed zero to sixty in my head and it was like 15 seconds.
Now if im going like 40 and above and I slowly press on the accelerator it will pick up speed fast, it wont downshift but it still has a lot of topend. Also I noticed that when I shift b/w drive and overdrive the rpms dont change. I dont know if that means anything. What is TCC? I had it scanned at two different autozones one guy said it was the shift sensor and walked away and the girl yesterday said that it was the selonoid but neither said if it was an old code or not.
