service engine soon light?
hey guys, just got my 95 Z28 6-speed on friday. the car runs great, but the service engine light comes on randomly then goes away when i turn the car off and doesent come back. once it came on for a minute then went off. it has done it 3 or 4 times, is this normal. the car has 67k miles on it and runs great, all stock except a K&N filter on stock intake and flowmaster muffler, also it has skip shift eliminator. could it be the eliminator? im kinda worried about it since i just got it. i got a 3 month 3k mile warranty on the drivetrain with the car. i would get the code pulled but i never know when the light will come on or go off. my brother has a 95 T-Bird SC 5-speed and he says his comes on sometime and goes off. a friend told me it was just OBD 1. any help would be appreciated. thanks.

the code will still be in memory regardless of whether the MIL light is on at that time or not. being that your car is a 95 year model, you may run into a problem when you get it scanned.
95's have an OBDI computer but use a 16 pin OBDII ALDL connector. if the shop where you get it scanned doesn't know this, it will be a problem.
good luck!

i noticed something else, when i take off or slow down for a corner and accelerate of idle any time the tranny or rear end, one of the 2 sounds like its binding. could it be there is not enough/ no fluid in one of them? it only happens for a second and only off idle and sometimes when i go into third after i let the clutch out. the car never comes out of gear and keeps acclerating, it just makes that binding noise. i also dont know if any of the fluids have ever been changed, i was thinking about changing the diff. fluid tomorrow but i might just take it to the dealer and see what they say.

I just installed SLP headers, a cutout & changed plugs (NGK TR55 IX) and now mine does the "Service Engine Soon" light when I'm cruising @ ~1600 RPM in 6th. It usually comes on after about 15 minutes of freeway driving and stays on until I shut off and restart the engine. It is code #32 which is related to an EGR switch sensor or something like that. It doesn't seem to affect performance and doesn't come on with around town driving but I would like to know for sure what is causing it so I can fix it.

don't forget to put limited slip differential additive in before filling the differential with fluid or you'll get a binding sound from the rear-end when you make sharp turns.
