It can be alot of things that cause the SES light to come on. Take it to Autozone and have them scan it and get the codes. Then we will be able to help you out. Otherwise, you're gonna get everyone's problem that caused their SES to come on.

Will the majority of service places or a dealership have the ability to scan it also?

I think his car has OBD1 so Autozone proably won't be able to do it. One of the local garages or the should be able to though. Except they like to charge an hour labor to do so.

Actually, I believe he has a 94 OBDI. In which Autozone should be able to scan. It is the 95 OBDII ALDL with the OBDI computer that gives Autozone a problem. I could be wrong.
