serp belt noise.

Okay, ive put on 2 brand new serp belts on my and they both make noise. They both squeal. Before anyone says it might be a pulley, i have a brand new tensioner, brand new alternator and power steering pump. I do not have a/c. If i spray the belt with a bit of WD/40 the noise goes away and stays gone for my car drive. when i turn the car off and it sits a bit, the noise will start again. You can always hear it, kinda like the alternator but it does not sound the same at all..

any idea's people?

I don't understand why people would spray a belt with WD-40. You should be cleaning it of any oils, not putting some on. Junk on the belt is only going to worsen things.

Are you saying you have an a/c delete pulley in place of the compressor? Are you using the correct size belt? Some people have needed to change the belt length with a delete pulley. Have you tried a Goodyear Gatorback belt?

i have a 57.7" belt on it at the moment, it was really tight going on. Started the car up, no noise, sounded good. So parked car, next day get up for work and its squealing. getting to the point where i want to change my set-up again. the 58.5" is to big, couldnt find a 58"

GTR-4060585 - 58.5"
GTR-4060578 - 57.7"

Probably your crank pulley is worn. Check a used serpentine belt to see if the pulley is reaching the bottom of the v shaped grooves.

its not the crank pulley. I took the front of my engine apart and cleaned it all with a wire brush then reinstalled everything, noise is now gone.

I once had an issue with the power steering fluid pump making noise on start up until the fluid warmed up. I changed the fluid and it went away. Sounds like a belt but it was the pump. Maybe that helps.

hhmm that might explain why when i drive to work in the morning in traffic it takes 5 minutes, but when i drive home with no traffic the noise is gone right after a 3rd gear pull. ill have to check the pump, i know my rack is leaking at the inner tie rod seal.

Check the alignment between the dampener pulley and the accessories. Best way to do this easily is to check the idler and where the belt sits on the dampener side and where the belt sits on the alternator side (if I understood the alternator is now where your AC used to be).

I am having a similar problem but I think mines the power steering pulley. It has a bit of play and kind of wobbes. Very little though, its driving me crazy.

How do your belts look when you take them off??

With the belt off, spin the pulleys by hand. If one does not feel smooth then you may have a bad pulley.
