Serious Engine Issues
Well I bought the car a year and a half ago with 38K on it. It's a 94 as the posting name would suggest. However, it's been running like CRAP for the last year, b/c of this the odometer only reads 55K right now as my bike has for the most part become my daily driver unless weather is horrible.
Anyway to the problem:
It doesn't always do this, though usually if you get on her pretty hard for a good 5 min or so she'll start acting up, I've also noticed she'll do most of the following if I've been in heavy traffic, and she's just heating up not moving much:
Revs sticking around 2-3K at IDLE. Revs surging from 1200-3k at idle (the tach needle just flickers around) and will continue to flick even when driving which makes it feel like it's missing.
Whatever is causing this "flickering" of the rpms makes it very difficult to drive, as from a stop it'll almost die if it flicks down when releasing the clutch (it's random) or it can get very jerky in 1st gear obviously (thanks to torque).
Now I've noticed if I don't drive her for a few days, then get back in, she usually runs fairly smooth, but still she'll start acting up sometimes. BTW I rarely beat on her, I almost always shift before 3K or right on it. (I also have a V6 dash, the idiots who brought it in from canada put the wrong one on so my rpms read higher than they actually are so 3K is probably more like 2.5 or so, i just take it high enough to avoid dealing with the skip shift).
Anyway, I have taken her to the local community college where a buddy of mine attends school and they checked it out, put new plugs and o2 sensors in and couldn't really figure out what the issue was, although they definately realized there was one.
She isn't throwing any code although t hey mentioned something about when your driving it, though the CEL light doesn't light up, you can pick up some sort of secondary ignition code, which they couldn't make sense of.
I also noticed that it is missing ALOT of power. To test it a few times I went to an empty road in the middle of the night with a buddy, and we did a 15mph roll. I have the TBS and a flowmaster on mine and it's a 6 speed, his is a stock Z28 auto. He pulled on me about 2-4 cars up to 80 or so when we shut down. I also did the same thing with a friend's acura tl (w/8lb s/c) that she ran a 15.1 in..... she smoked me.... So i'm wondering if I'm only firing on 6 cyl ??
I'm almost positive it is some sort of electrical problem, but what could it be? I've had friends check out the car and they don't believe it's opti related and if it had been I'd imagine it would have gone by now since I've put about 10K miles on it since it started doing this.
As I said though it's a 94 with now 55K miles on it. The only maintenance/mods I've done to it is regular oil changes, installed a new clutch, put a K&N air filter in it, flowmaster exhaust, o2 sensors and plugs. I'm wondering if I need new wires.
On the same note I crashed my bike a month ago, it's back together now but I'm broke thanks to med bills etc so I can't just throw money on "possible solutions".
Anyone have any educated opinions? I'd love to enjoy the car as that's what I bought it for....
