Sensor ontop of rear differential cover?

Friend is doing a 4th gen rear end swap, into a 3rd gen. The rear end he got is from a 93-97 F-body.. There is a sensor on the differential cover, can anyone provide any insight on this sensor?

Could it be the abs sensor?

Wrong. It is the ABS sensor, but "4 wheel abs sensoring" AKA traction control which is a 4 channel, could be had on LT1 cars. The rear you have must be a 3 channel non traction control rear end.

Is he aware that the 4th Gen rear axle assembly is 3" wider than the one on his 3rd Gen, and could require different offset wheels (depending on whether his 3rd Gen was one with the factory "spacers")?

Yes, all that has been taken into account

Thanks for the answers, I suppose it'll just have to be "there" to fill the hole.
