self built Stroker
self built Stroker
Been doing a lot of research on building a stroker and I'm just about ready to go. Right now I'm looking for the right machine shop. I'm hoping that I can find one close enough to drive to so that I can take a look at their operation.
I wan't to assemble the bottom end myself mostly because I've never had that experience and want to. Am I out of my mind. I'm very mechanically inclined and have done just about everything else that can be done to a car. I know I could do it I just don't know if I could get the same quality as an experienced engine builder. To really get this thing right I know that I'll need a good dial guage and a mounting pedestal and good set of machinist dial calipers. I've got pretty much everything else. Providing that I find a good machine shop that I can trust for a four bolt main conversion, line honing and torque plate boring shouldn't I be able to assemble the bottom end with good precision provided I take the time and plan well?
I really want the satisfaction and experience of doing it myself.
Thanks

Yeah...go for it! Allot of people always say hey this is hard...that is hard. But once you try it for yourself you realize just how hard it isn't and how much fun it really is...Will be attempting to do the same myself..soon.
It's much easier to have someone experienced to help you. Also, to do it right, you need a number of measuring devices that are absent from the average toolbox. Read up on it if there is no one who can help you. If it's a really hi-po/hi-rev setup I'd advise against it, but good luck!
