Seemingly no power gain with AS&M's

After basically a single hand job, I finally got my AS&M's installed over 3 and a half days. I ran the car a day to get a few heat cycles in the bolts and I retightened them up today. They are Breslin bolts so they didn't need to be tightened up too much but after running the car, it seems to not have gained much in power. I do still have the LT1 knock module in, do you think that it is sensing too much false knock and pulling out a lot of timing? Also, I seem to have a small problem with my header vibrating against my body right at the collector. I put a piece of rubber hose inbetween the collector and the body and it helped it but I can still feel the vibration. Would the LT4 knock module help me out as far as power? I used to have a high RPM hesitation (5500-5900) but that has seemed to dissappear. I think it may have been just my computer relearning everything because it did that right after I took the car out and drove it.

I would think that the rubber hose would melt after the headers got hot.

Dont feel too bad. I just ditched my 2.73's and put in 3.73's and I dont really feel much of a differance at all.

I wouldn't expect to "feel" a difference after a header only install. I bet you would see a difference in your track times though. I don't think an LT4 knock module would do you much good either. You should get it scanned to see what some of the sensors are reading. Probably even do a few dyno pulls. Extreme Performance in OKC can hook you up on the above 405-721-2430

It sounds to me like AS&M needs to work a little bit on their quality of fit. After installing mine, I was getting that same vibration on the chassis at the collector. I tried the rubber hose and it melted and didn't help much anyways. I finally got up in there with an air grinder and grinded away where the collector was hitting the chassis. I did most the grinding on the chassis rather than the collector in fear of creating an exhaust leak. It hasn't vibrated since.
It really makes me angry that I would even have to bother doing this after paying for what was suppose to be a premium product.
On a side note, I too, am down on power. I am about to go get an LT4 KM and am hoping that helps. I'm beginning to wonder if these headers are all they're made out to be.

Ya it sounds like we have the exact same problem. How on earth did you even get a grinder up in that tight spot?!? I tried but couldn't succeed. I did another post on this exact same problem and it turns out it may just be a sagging motor mount. I am going to replace mine with a poly mount and I hope that would solve the problem...

As far as the down on power thing, let me know how it works out when you get the LT4 KM. I'll be ordering one soon so if I get mine in before yours, I'll let you know...

Re: Seemingly no power gain with AS&M's

The noise from the header hitting the chassis might be enough to cause a knock retard problem.

Re: Seemingly no power gain with AS&M's

You guys complaining about the headers hitting the chassis should check your motor mounts. I wouldn't blame the headers yet, until you change your mounts and prove it's the headers.

Also, I could easily feel my headers install, and they were midlength headers also, but MAC's. You shoul d be able to feel it.

...and yes, get the LT4 KM.

The LT4 KM is always a good idea.
