Every once in awhile I will go to start my car and nothing happens, kind of like a dead battery. The security light is on and won't let my car start, it will stay on for about 5 minutes and turn off, then the car starts fine. What could be causing this?

It only happens maybe once every few weeks now, it used to be more often.

 

it is the VATS security system. it reads off of the chip on your key. if it gets dirty, or worn, it will trip and the security light will come on. the security light should stay on for three minutes and then reset. once in my 95 i was stranded for about three hours and the f'in car wouldn't start because the security light kept coming on. it can be a royal pain in the butt when it messes up.
