security light

I was on my way home from my girlfriends house driving like normal when my security light on my dash came on it has never done this before and the light went off in about 5 miles. I did nothing different, i just kept driving. I have a 94 Z with an M6 if that matters. what does the light mean?

The most common reason the light comes on is the pellet in the key wears down over time. The contacts in the switch get weak also. The contact between the 2 then isn't consistant over time. Since I bypassed mine over a year ago with a resistor, I have not had the problem. But I had to since I changed the steering wheel.

Sure it would. Take your key to the parts counter of the local Chevy or other GM dealership. Ask to see a blank key of any code. Compare the thickness of the pellet from side to side. Another thing that effects the switch is having a lot of keys on your key ring. The weight and the giggling around wears both contacts and pellets.
