Exclamation security light

Yesterday I started my car up to go out with some friends. The security light on the dashboard that comes on when you start the car came on, but it never shut off. I shut the car off, and started it back up to see if the light could have just malfunctioned. The light stayed on once again and never shut off. So im stuck driving around everywhere with the secutrity light on. Im using the same key i've been using for a year and a half so i don't think it could be the special chip on the key. Does anyone know what happened? or how to fix it?

Thanks

Not that I know anything about this key system, but,,,,

my light was coming on after start up and it would stay on for a while than go back off, sometimes it wouldn't come on at all for a couple of days but eventually it would come back on. I did a search and someone mentioned that the key resister could be getting worn down. Because the system does a check every 3 minutes or something like that it showed a security light once in a while possibly due to a worn key. I dug out my spare key which is brand new and I have been using it for about 4 days so far and no light. Also the old key is visibly worn at the resister compared to the new key.

I don't know if our problems are the same but I thought I would share that with you.

A few things are possible.

-The PassKey system might have sensed a problem in the key cylinder during the ON cycle that the light stayed on. If it is repaired, the lamp will go off.

-There could be a problem in the lamp circuit.

-A problem in the theft deterrent module.

As long as the light is on, you don't have any PassKey protection.

My light stayed on for over 2 years before it finally caused a problem. Then my car wouldn't start, I think because the wires that feed the resistor info to the theft deterrant module broke. So my answer was to remove the theft deterrant relay and pull the bulb from the security light socket. You probably won't have any problems for a while, just that annoying yellow light. How you want to fix it is up to you, but I just removed the relay to take the module out of the loop.
