seat pressure(valve springs) ? and hotcam
what is a recomended seat pressure for a hotcam? with stock size valves-- in/1.05 grams , ex /95 grams , now I have crane 10308 springs installed @ 1.78/in ,was looking at crane web site and seen the springs in that kit (99893) is 130 lbs @1.850 installed , if mine is installed at 1.78, is this too much seat pressure for this cam and a daily driver?
Re: seat pressure(valve springs) ? and hotcam
How are you measuring what your installed height is, what components(retainer/locator) are you using?
But yes, any higher than 130# on the seat and you will bleed down the lifters.

Ya got to measure.Guessing won't cut it.
I shoot for 130# AFTER break in. The springs will loose 20-25#lbs after a few heat cycles. Shoot for about 150# advertised at your installed height, and they will break in right.
A set of $500.00 springs won't but I dought ya got those.
Don't worry about the stock lifter's,they will be fine.

I used to run 1.625 springs on everything to prevent the loss, but most people aren't aware or just don't do it 'cause of the expense.99% of people are going to put on barely enough to get the job done with no reserve and a 130#regular low dollar spring will wind up to be 105-110# or less when it's all said and done.

No - I'm talking standard isky springs, the 235-D, 6105, etc I only see 10 lbs loss over an extended time period. I only use the toolroom springs on our blown marine motors because they run them for years before a rebuild and they sit for long periods without use. I use the standard 6105/6205 on the circle track stuff because we change the springs out every season, when rechecking stuff they have only lost about 10lbs on a full season of racing. Our GTA cars get the Endurance 9000 stuff.
Not saying you are wrong by any means, just what I've seen is different.

THE accepted method of installing springs, is having them checked on a good tester before hand, and setup with accurate measuring from retainer to head.
What was stated in posts above, was blunt, but I agree with it.
