Search doesnt work? Quick Spark Plug question.

search function isnt working for me... and didnt want to bug you guys with such a stupid question..

just curious on what is "THE" sparkplug for the Lt-1's?

the Delco's are too expensive for that puck to fall off... IMO... just wondering if there is anything else out there that people suggest..

Also... im looking at the over the valve cover wires since im need new wires, but im running a stock manifold right now, but already have the headers as a X-mas gift from the g/f... but cant play with them till x-mas.... could i use the OVC wires on the stock manifolds?

Thanks, and sorry for the stupid questions...

You haven't given any information for a reply. You have not told what year the car is, what you have done to it, and please tell how you use wires on manifolds of any type? Also what "puck" falls off? Also what are valve cover wires? You are making up a lot of parts that don't even come on a car ever made...

Re: Search doesnt work? Quick Spark Plug question.

he wanted to know if he could use otvc wires on stock manifolds. your being ignorant and gettin on him when you dont even know what the part hes asking about is yourself.

OTVC wires would rest right on the manifold and probably melt them. id do the header instal and wires at the same time.

as for plugs, i use the bosch platinum 2 and like them alot. plus you dont have to gap them.

Re: Search doesnt work? Quick Spark Plug question.

dang feel the love in here

IMO theres no way to route wires OTVC with stock manifolds....and plus, theres really no point. With headers, OTVC makes it so there is really no way to burn a wire. With stock manifolds, it would be WAAAAY more trouble than its worth.

Also, for a mostly stock car (which it sounds like yours is), get NGK plugs....cheap and proven. Delcos are way too expensive and Bosch Platinum +whatevers are a gimmick.

I wouldn't advise running the OTVC wires on the long tubes, not only will it look messy but you run a good chance of frying some wires as routing will be very tricky. Your probably better off just making do with your stock wires until you install your headers and then run the OTVC wire setup. I agree the plat. Delcos are expensive..I am using the NGK TR-55 plugs in my setup and they are something like 2.00 a plug. Not bad at all.

NGK TR55VX or Iradiums @.050. Or you can get the coppers which don't last as long, but are good conductors. JMHO

Re: Search doesnt work? Quick Spark Plug question.

my $.02

on both my 4th gens, one lt1 and one ls1, both with just over 50K miles. when i replaced the plugs, both cars had the platnum puck missing from 4 of the 8 spark plugs. resulting in something like .080" gap.

for the $16 i spent on a full set of NGK TR55 plugs, i don't mind changing them out sooner.

i mean, $8-10 per plug to last a bit longer is CRAZY. the NGKs will still probably last a good 50K miles, which is probably at LEAST 2-3yrs worth of driving for most guys. a 2hr spark plug swap is pretty minimal to save youself that much money, while having the peace of mind that the plugs are still good.

hell with my driving style, i'll change them every 25K miles, which is still every 2yrs or so. and still have saved more money than going with something "claimed" to last longer.

hmm, I work at a dealership, and I nor anyone there has ever seen a platnium puck come off. Do you know what you are looking at? lol ok just kiddin, but seriously, delcos are awesome plugs. If you don't want to buy platniums, then go for the rapid fires like I did. They are excellent plugs, and I got all 8 for under 30 bucks. Sure beats changing the plugs every damn year and haveing to re-index them. I index my plugs to squeeze every drop of horsepower out of my car, plus it helps balance the motor better too. But, NGks work awesome in my sled, but I have to change them every season. Good thing they are cheap, cuz they don't last long! I am sure someone will jump on me now for stating my experience, so let it begin!

Re: Search doesnt work? Quick Spark Plug question.

Don't know nothin' bout no sticnkin' spark plugs. Changed mine out just for the hell of it with just a couple of thousand on them when car was new. Don't know why. I do recall hearing from many on this board that when they checked their stock (delco plats) at around 50-60 thou, that the pucks indeed were worn: the manufacturer says they are goof for 100 grand.

Yes, you will probably have to change out a copper plug more often than a harder metal plat or irradium, but the coppers are less expensive and are supposedly better conductors (BTW, I changed my Bronco plugs for the first time since new 110 thou + and they looked prettly good althought the gaps were big enough to drive a semi through (and they are copper) so I replaced them with coppers.

I agree with the responses re OVC wires: why bother unless you get some headers that require them. Just leavem' alone if they are working.
At any rate make sure you put some anti sieze on the plugs before you reinstall so that they come out easier next time to change them. And it's a good idea to double check your gaps before you install because oft times the ones out of the box may be off. JMHO

Re: Search doesnt work? Quick Spark Plug question.

been off for a little while but i appreciate the responses...

so the over the valve cover wires are a no go... good to know...

the platinum "puck" on the delco plugs do fall off from time to time... ive owned 3 4th gens and have ALWAYS replaced with the factory delco's and i actually change them about every 20k (dont know why) and sometimes 2 of the 8 will be missing, and sometimes their all missing... sometimes none..

here's a pic on what im talking about...

i would just replace them with the delco's but they get expensive and im on a tight budget right now, but i need to swap them out..

and my bad... car info would be good to know huh. lol... its a 94' trans am, lt1, auto, pretty much bone stock except for exhaust and intake.... it has 170k on it.

Thanks

JOe

1. You do not put wires ON the manifold as he asked in the begining.
2. You use Bosch Platinum +2's... nuff said about that (grandma's car?)
3. You CAN'T gap Bosh Platinum +2's.
4. I highly doubt you can read judging by your sentence formation.

Re: Search doesnt work? Quick Spark Plug question.

lol. some information can safely be assumed like the fact that no one would have the intent on putting wires ON the manifold. maybe you would. i appologize on behalf of kingofthehill for not breaking things down for you.

so making jokes on my car about the plugs i use makes you a man??? (my 'grandmas' car is faster than yours). the bosch plat +2's come pre-gapped and not being able to gap my plugs means you dont have to gap them, correct??? yea thats what i thought. who tries to correct the way someone writes on the internet? honestly? get a life dude!!!!

anyway, back to the topic.
