what do i need to scan my car? it doesnt run.

 

Scan it for codes? You can use an ordinary OBD-II scanner, AZ lends them out for free.

 

What year is your car?

 

if you have OBD1 get freescan, a laptop with a serial connection and an ECU cable.

 

If you want help, you are going to have to tell us what you are driving.

 

Helpful hint.....

Add a "signature" showing the year of your car, model, engine, trans and any major mods. Without this info, people like the first person to respond may be giving you incorrect info, since not all years of the LT1 can be scanned with an OBD-II scanner. One year can actually be read by shorting the ALDL pins.

 

i have a 94 z28. I may have found my problem. I dont think I have a ground from the block to the chassis, and I know atleast with old motors that you need this in order for the car to run. Any opinions?

 

I also have a 94 Z28, and I have a cheep little actron code scanner. It doesn't give me information though. I guess it is only for really old oBD1 cars, like TPI's. What kind of code scanner should I get?

 

If you have no battery cable ground to the engine, it's not even going to start. There is also a braided ground strap from the driver's side chassis to one of the coil studs.

 

I found the driver side braided strap and connected it. the car started right up, but then an hour later it just turned without starting. is there anyway that since I'm losing so much oil pressure that the car wont start?

 

Have you checked the fuel pressure? I had a problem with the fuel pump where the car would start when it was cold, but when it was started it would not restart until it sat overnight, even if it only ran for a couple of minutes. Engine would turn over normally, but it would not start until several hours went by.

 

I just installed a brand new racetronix setup with the walbro pump. I can hear it turn on and pump when I turn the ignition to the on position so I dont think it is that. How do I check the fuel pressure?

 

There is a Schrader valve on the fuel rail that you would connect a fuel pressure gauge to.

 

what should the fuel pressure gauge be reading???

 

Spec is 43.5 psi with the vacuum hose to the fuel pressure regulator disconnected, but anywhere from 41-47 psi is normal.
