scanmaster

is it worth the 250? i have a 97 z28, and would like to be able to see what codes i have and erase them, and monitor what the car is doing. i was looking into the software for a laptop(autotap or something like that) but someone suggested this. would this be a good investment?

Re: scanmaster

Do they work fully on OBD-II cars these days? I like mine (OBD-I) and find it extremely useful for a blown car, but I think I'd go with a software package for an OBD-II.

Re: scanmaster

On a 1997 OBII car the Scanmaster will not show codes it only shows codes for OBI and it will not erase codes. All other functions will work though.

Re: scanmaster

Spend another $50 or so and get a complete AutoXray setup w/ cables for OBD1 and OBD2 setups on all Domestic manufactured vehicles.

Re: scanmaster

The ScanMaster is IMO the best for everyday monitoring because it can be easily mounted and run continuously. For troublshooting, it works "ok" but a laptop type program like mentioned above is generally better for actual troubleshooting.

So, if you are like me, you'll find the need for BOTH cases and therefore you'll eventually end up with both a ScanMaster (because it's so cool!) and also a laptop type program for involved troubleshooting.

Dude, I just bought the cable for autoxray - do you have any info on its scanning potentials - or maybe software for tuning?

Re: scanmaster

You can't tune with the AutoXray. Depending on the model you get, the scanning potential is endless. I would look on their website or possibly shoot them an email and they could answer the questions you have more accurately.
