Scan Tools
You can pick up an AutoXray scan tool and the cable for OBD I GM cars with the OBD II port. Should be around $210 for both, just do some digging around (google).
Or, you can pick up an adapter cable ( www.akmcables.com/ ) that will allow you to connect your pc/laptop to the vehicle's OBD port using the serial port of the pc/laptop. Then just download something like Freescan or Datamaster and scan away. There are other options out there, those are just some common ones that usually get the job done pretty well. I've had Freescan for a while now and have found it to be very easy to use and VERY handy.
Good luck.

If you do get ahold of an OBD-I scan tool it will probably have the 12 pin connector on it that won't match to your DLC. You can adapt it like this.
