SCAN MASTER vs OTHER HANDHELD SCANNERS
I looking to purchase a scan master or some other kind of handheld code/scanner reader for my 95 Z28 Camaro. What is the best and least expensive scanner code reader for my vehicle. Also, will it work with ED WRIGHT programing?
The cheapest one is the AutoXray.... about $170. The big drawback it the limited visibility of the LCD display. But it will log 29 seconds of data in 1-second increments. It will scan a few more minor sensors than the ScanMaster. And it can be used on many other GM cars, unlike the ScanMaster.
Advantage of the SM is the bright LED display that makes it easy to use while driving, even for permanent install on the dash. And the ability to record the highest knock retard and lowest O2 readings for a WOT blast.
Depends what you want to use it for.
I can't think of any reason Ed Wright would disable the communications link.

I have an Actron Scantool that I use on an OBDI vehicle. It is not the least expensive, but very good for a hand held retail product. It is easy to use and fairly informative. It's limitation like most hand helds is data logging.
