save me superman...i mean shoebox!

I was driving around today and my cars fans don't turn on, and i fixed it for a bit then the dealer messed them up again so i just want to put in a manual fan switch. I was looking on your site (shoebox) and found the wiring diagram but was wondering if i can just use two switches instead of one for turning the fans on. It says DPDT, can i just use two SPDT, one for the low speed fan and one for the high speed? all i do is splice into them, hook up the switch, then put the other side to the positive cable or what? i don't know what half the signs mean on the diagram.

You can use two switches if you want, but seems like a lot more trouble. If you wire any of that (except the LED power) to 12v, you are going to burn something up.

The fan relays are controlled by ground, not 12v.

Ok, so splice into the fan wires, put in switch, put the other ends to 12v, turn it on and hope like all get out it works huh? I don't plan on having an LED, i can hear if they're on.

I hope you are not wiring the fans directly to the switch. The fans NEED to be wired through an auxiliary relay. The switch would then actuate the aux. relay to start/stop the fans. The current draw is too high to wire the fans directly.

If he follows the diagram on my site, there is no need for any additional relays. It uses the fan relays already there, operating the fans just like the computer does.

Re: save me superman...i mean shoebox!

Now i have another problem. I used the same wires that's on your site, through the relay, and they turn on when i flip the switch with the car off, but as soon as i move it to the start position or start the car, they turn off and don't come on. I wired it like this.

Relay--------splice------where ever the wire ends up
switch--------/
|
More wire------------Battery

The lines and dashes are the wire trails. I went from the relay, spliced, connected the wires back together with a wire from the switch being with them. Then took the other end of the switch/other wire and attached it to the positive battery cable. But the fans won't come on when i start the car, they only turn on when it's not running.

If any of that makes any sense at all...

the switch, if wired like on that site( http://shbox.com/1/fan_sw_diagram1.jpg ) , needs to go to ground, not positive
