SAFE rev limit is what?

tried the search option, too many threads for it, what is the "safe rev limit for the lt1 stock internals w/ 140,000 miles on it, it is VERY well taken care of and was driven by a woman for the last 100k, never saw above 4 grand with her!! had tune done and it raised the limiter, wondering if i can take advantage of that. thanks for the input

Re: SAFE rev limit is what?

There is no need to rev your engine over 6k rpm.

With a stock cam and heads there is no point to revving it past 5,600-5,700rpm. In fact, it will go slower if you shift higher than that.

Re: SAFE rev limit is what?

well, when racing.... what is a good shift point for a stock motored car with bolt ons? mine has 88k, and i don't want to overdo it. it's a 6 spd, and i want to find a shift point. An actual rpm shift point, and what that converts to on the not so accurate stock tach. thanx

Re: SAFE rev limit is what?

The reason I change the rev limiter to 6000 on my performance tunes is because when shifting around 5800, it is easy to hit the rev limiter and 100 or so more RPM give you a little room for that, but you don't have to shift it at 5999.

Re: SAFE rev limit is what?

For most bolts on cars, a good shift point is about 6000 rpm. Looking at my dyno chart, it's almost the perfrect RPM to shift at. Nothing higher is needed.

Put a different cam in there, and it's another story.

I agree, 6K is a good number.

Hell you don't even have headers i wouldn't rev it much over 5k. You can really feel the car choke up, up high with stock manifolds.

5600-6000. No need to go over 6k though, LT1 valvetrain can't take the pressure, plus the power drops off really quick after that.

Re: SAFE rev limit is what?

i very rarely go over 5300 when im racing, which i dont do much at all anyways, i just wanted the reasurrance that if i happen to miss a gear or when i go to the track that im not really putting it in any real danger by hitting 6k, since the tune, the car pulls a lot better up top, dosent really die as it used to above 5 grand, i imagine three cans of seafoam that i took to clean it out didnt hurt it, killed every airborne insect within five miles of winghaven!!! good stuff

Re: SAFE rev limit is what?

I got a hypertech reprogrammer that i never really use because it seems to do nothing, does anyone know what the stock rpm limiter is? I was thinking about lowering it a little bit for added safety.
