runs a few seconds after you turn the ignition off

I'm thinking about buying a 97 z28 auto

with a comp cam, bee hive springs and 36lb. injectors.(this is all the info I have)

What would cause it to run after its turned off?

It sounds like its out of time...Cam has wrong degree or opti in wrong?

thanks for any help

Sounds like a timing issue, are you sure the ignition is completely turned off? I've seen this happen in older carb vehicles but nothing modern like an LT1.

Is there power feeding into the ignition circuit from a spinning fan/motor or something?

Does the engine run like a diesel for that short period it is running once the key is turned in the off position?

on old carbed vehicles this is caused by a number of problems. to much timing and posibly a little carbon buildup will get the pistons hot enough to detonate any fuel in the cylinder, but you would have to have a worn out carb or be tuned way to rich to get the fuel in the cylinder after the engine stops turning.

on a modern fuel injection engine you could have a similar set of problems. if the timing was to far advanced and the tune was way to rich or you had a leaky fuel injector that could also cause this problem.
