Running way rich, how do I fix?

I noticed it yesterday when a friend of mine pointed it out. There is black crap that is building up on my back bumper(like those old honda civics with crap on the bumper). I just checked my wires and they seem to be fine. I really havent noticed a difference in the way it drives or anything. It did this before and I replaced a burnt wire and it went back to normal but like mentioned before, the wires were fine. Im lost. I am driving home tomorrow(5 hour drive) and need to know if I need to find another way home. Thanks alot.

I don't think you have anything to be alarmed about unless the entire back of your car is black or something similar. If it's just a little above the exhaust tips, then you're alright. It's not going to be very easy to avoid with a yellow car and stock style exhaust.

How sure are u that u are running rich? I would take out one of ur spark plugs and see how it looks. If the plugs are relatively new and they have a lot of black build up on them, chances are u are then running rich. If it turns out u are running rich, a simple programming could fix it.

Im probably overreacting but I havent washed in about a week and its covering the bumper and goes up over the taillights and onto the bottom side of the spoiler. I know I am running rich. Im running MAC headers and a stock intake so I know Im not getting enough air in compared to the air that Im getting out. Does that make any sence??? Anyways, Im gonna check the plugs and hope for the best. Thanks guys, keep em coming.

It's possible that the build-up you're seeing on the bumper and spoiler area isn't from the exhaust.

That area of Camaros is well-known for accumlating dirt just from driving, due to the shape of the car and the way that air travels over it.

I'd check it out in a dark garage and see if you can see any sparks from other burnt wires. If you get a misfire in there, it'll cause you to go really rich in one cylinder (duh) and then really lean in the other three. And this is NOT good.

Does the exhaust smell rich? If so, you may have somthing to worry about. The PCM should automatically lean out a rich mix in closed loop, so it shouldn't be able to build up like that. You might want to check out yer O2's if they haven't been changed in a while.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, Im waiting for it to get dark out so I can see if I have an arching wire or something similar. The exhaust has always smelt rich from the day I bought it. Its not any stronger than most any other cars. I also replaced the O2's when I did the headers about 5 months back. Hopefully its a wire and nothing more serious. Thanks again everyone.
