Running in Speed Density
Running in Speed Density
I did a search and the links that came up did not answer my questions. I currenty have a MAF that is not reading anything causing my car to run in Speed Density mode, I am curious as to what effect that has on performance as well as drivability...apparently I have been running in Speed density mode for a while now without being aware of it and the car drives fine and performs well for the minor bolt ons I have. I am just curious.
i was about to post this exact question
i disconnected my MAF and it seems to be running smoother, but i'd like to run without the MAF for a few days to make sure there are differences before i shell out for a new MAF. will anything be hurt? i'm running brand new o2 sensors so the computer should know if its running lean or rich...

Well I had my car scanned with auto tap over the weekend, the MAF was reading 0, it was pulling absolutely nothing. I am a little confused on all the numbers that autotap put down, I have been studying them all day, but still makes no sense.
My car is reading all kinds of knock as the Knock count reached 17324 and the knock% was 11.5 ..crazy I know..
My Right Bank O2 was reading really rich, not sure why @ 107mph at 100% WOT the Left side was reading 915 & the right side was reading 985, thats to high!!, but I bought all new Delco O2's yesterday and found that my header bolts were loose on the passenger side, so I hope that solves that problem...
But I am still wondering why my GMAF is not reading anything, I hope for 300+$ of performance that its not the hardware itself but faulty wiring that I can correct myself. I am just really needing to know if this is hurting me performance wise,

If your car is mostly stock, then you won't notice much difference between MAF and MAP operation. The MAP is there in the event the MAF fails. When your engine becomes modified, the MAF will sense the difference in air mass more accurately than the MAP. Your MAF should definately be sending information though. Sounds like yours is dead.
As for the O2 values, 915 isn't bad and 985 isn't the end of the world. Fix your leaks and plug in your new sensors and try again.
