Running rich cause rings to not seat? might lead to oil leaking, high P crank case?
Running rich cause rings to not seat? might lead to oil leaking, high P crank case?
If the motor is running rich, can it cause the rings to not seat correctly, and therefore cause blow by? shop used moly rings.
Cause i have an oil leak around the opti area, and the shop said they used "national" seals which are the same as gm seals, and they are wondering if i have high pressure in the crankcase because the rings aren't seated properly because it could be running rich causing the pressure to shoot oil out of the seals?
so its either the seals or them sealing it correctly was a problem, or they also think it could be because the car is running rich since the rings may not have seated correctly due to the fuel injectors being too big and running rich. and they say if the rings aren't seated properly, there will be more pressure in the crank case and therefore cause oil to spew out of those seals?
just wondering what others think about this. They say running rich can wear out the rings or not have them seat properly.
i have about 1800 miles on the motor.
thanks

well the main question now is will running rich cause the rings to not seat properly.
The main seals around the opti and timing cover were not leaking, there is an oil leak somewhere else though, still trying to figure out where.
But i am wondering if rings can get messed up withing 1800 miles if the car has been running rich.

Depending how rich the extrea fuel can wash the oil film from the cylinders causing exessive wear very quickly, or could carbon up the rings and make them stick and not seat well. The fuel blowby is hell on oil as well.

i think im in deep **** then, my car was running rich for a week, i check oil after 500 miles on oil change, and there is a gas smell in the oil which means it is fuel contaminated...checked FPR and Injectors, and both are good....am i screwed or is there still a possibility that it isnt the rings? i have a post on this...just search "fuel in crankcase" if you think you can help me...thanks

Only way to tell if it's the rings is do a leakdown test. Compression test won't tell ya like a leakdown test will. Ya don't have the compression numbers when the engine was new to compare to.
Extra fuel washes the oil off of the cyl walls and causes the rings to not seal.
Another thing the leak on the timing cover could be caused by any number of things.
